Monthly Meeting - Watercress Line - Mar 2012

The March meeting ( on March 4th ) which is being organised by Ron and Jean is a trip on the "Watercress Line" and lunch at "The Bell" (see links below). Ron and Jean have organised a group rate of £12 per person for the Watercress line and I trust by now those of you who plan to come along have been in touch with them (or me) as we have had to commit to numbers to get the group rate.

The plan is to meet at Alton station car park at 11.30 , collect our tickets, and then catch the 11.55 steam train to Alresford. DON"T BE LATE REMEMBER THAT THE TRAIN (in common with time) WAITS FOR NO MAN---OR WOMAN EITHER !

The train is due to arrive at Alresford @12.29 and it's about a 5 minute walk from the station to "The Bell". The menu looks really good!

After lunch there are trains back to Alton leaving Alresford at 15.00 and 15.43.

For those who would like a quick look around the Watercress Line restoration yard it's possible to catch the 15.00, get off at Ropley, where the yards are located, then catch the 15.51 from Ropley to Alton (this is the 15.43 from Alresford) arriving in Alton at 16.24. Note that this is the last train of the day so don't miss it as it's one hell of a walk back to Alton!

There is a car park at Alton station, however charges apply even on a Sunday. Alternative FREE parking is available at Rogers Court (5 minutes walk) or Victoria Road ( 6 minutes walk ). The following link shows the location of car parks in Alton. (see links below)
