December Monthly Meet 2016

A superb Christmas lunch was enjoyed at The Crown Hotel, Mundford for ten of our Anglia members.  Unfortunately due to illness, work commitments and the loss of our dear friend Henry, we were just a small group this year.  It was decided we would have a “secret Santa”, something different for us and after a very large meal and the distribution of Christmas cards and our “Santa” presents, Barrie presented a gift to Ali and Dave from Headquarters.  This was to thank them for their hard work and commitment to the Anglia Region.  A few of us will be travelling to the I.O.W. later in the month, just to recharge our batteries before tackling Christmas!  We have had a busy year and many changes have affected us all , Ivan and Janet’s move, Sharon’s illness, the loss of our dear friend Henry, and still to come is John’s knee operation on the 22nd of December, so next year we are all going to look forward to having some good times and make the most of what life has to offer.

We would like to take this opportunity of wishing everyone the Best of Everything for Christmas and the New Year.  Keep well, safe and happy.

There will be no meeting in January, but a few of us have arranged a long weekend away in Stratford Upon Avon on the 20th and we will probably arrange whilst we are away, a “soup & pudding” event so we can discuss the programme for the year.

August Monthly Meet 2016

August saw our annual BBQ. This year 13 members of the Anglia Region met at John & Mary’s home in Sturmer. It was a great day, although a bit blustery at times. Everyone brought their own meat/fish and various contributions towards a very enjoyable meal. Thanks to John and Mary for allowing us to meet in their delightful garden and for all their hard work to make the day so enjoyable. Some of us had brought photographs showing our “growing up” years from babyhood through to adult and most of us managed to match the photos to the current faces – great fun and lots of memories.

Unfortunately Wendy and Steve didn’t manage to attend so we could not discuss next month’s boat trip – which looks as though might not be happening unfortunately due to prior commitments of most of us.

We will be organising our Christmas lunch soon – most of us thought last year’s venue was a good choice and Alice will obtain a menu when they are available. Various long weekends and short breaks were discussed as Alice had been approached by Warners with some deals. 9th December proved to be a favourite for some of us wishing to go to the I.O.W but no one was particularly interested in the offers for January. A brochure from Shearings was produced and Bournmouth looks to be quite a good deal with them either 4 days or a long weekend. This will be discussed further at our October meeting which is a drive organised by Ivan and Janet over 2 days, possibly starting from the Norwich area and stopping overnight (for those who wish) at Lowestoft – but details are needing to be ironed out before finally publishing the route etc.

February Monthly Meet 2016

Our meeting this month was held at the home of Ali and Dave Neaves in Shipdham, Norfolk and 17 of our members gathered for a soup and pudding lunch.

First of all we got down to business with the planning of our future meetings and we soon had a varied and exciting programme mapped out for the year.  Everyone had their say and it was agreed that although some of our events did not coincide with the first Sunday of the month (most did) but events and logistics dictated our diary.  Everyone had input in the meeting and everything was soon arranged.

Lunch was a selection of soups made by Ali & Dave with everyone supplying nibbles, breads and some fantastic puddings so all in all it was a really good meeting.

Our next meeting is lunch at Elvedon 12 noon followed by a walk in the forest or a trip to the interesting mixture of shops on the Elvedon Estate.  This event will be organised by Sheila and Henry so those wishing to attend please let us know in order that we can book lunch.

November Monthly Meet 2015

Anglia region met a day earlier than normal for their monthly meeting. There were 11 of us for this month’s meeting held at The Peterborough Greyhound Stadium.  After a good meal we all settled down to enjoy the evening’s racing.  There were 14 races and although none of us won a fortune, some of us did manage to win a little and have a few laughs along the way.  Thanks to Joy and Barrie for organising this event and also for inviting us the following day for Brunch – Barrie managed the toast very well – no burnt offering and Joy cooked a supreme breakfast.

Next month’s meeting (December) is our Christmas Lunch.  We are hoping to have this at the Crown Hotel, Mundford, IP26 5HQ but confirmation will be on the Anglia website very shortly.

June Monthly Meet 2015

On a glorious day 9 members of the Anglia Region met in Norwich at the Cathedral. We were rather a small group this month as others had various other commitments.

We had a wonderful day organised by Tom & Sharon. First of all it was coffee time in the Cathedral’s cafe where a large television had been hooked up to video cameras on the spire of the cathedral monitoring the 3 baby peregrines that were about to try their luck and leave their nest - rather a scary flight for them.

Well after coffee it was time for the fun to begin. We all set off at different times on a treasure trail on foot, round part of the City that would not normally be seen by car, trying to work out some cryptic clues and anagrams that Tom and Sharon had cleverly done for us. Some of us had to double back various times for clues that were missed but on the whole we managed quite well, some even had time for a quick pint at the Wig & Pen. After we had all returned to the cathedral green we had some time to discuss the answers and Joy & Barrie came to the top of the class!

We discussed the AGM but only Joy & Barrie will be attending from our area this year. Ali reported on the progress of the summer holiday (15 members will be attending Derwent Manor Hotel) – stating that all monies had been paid by everyone and the rooming list would be sent to the hotel a.s.a.p.

After another trip to the cafe for tea and cakes we all took our leave – some of us to return home by public transport (very unusual as it was the MR2 Drivers Club) and others in their usual mode of transport! It was truly a great day thanks to both Tom & Sharon for all their hard work in organising the day. There will be no meeting next month due to our holiday but August’s meeting will be at Helmingham Hall Classic Sports Car event.

May Monthly Meet 2015

Ten members of the Anglia Region visited Rowley Mile Racecourse for the “Guineas” event on Sunday. Thanks to John and Mary for organising this event – it was an interesting experience, especially to be able to see the Parade Ring and try to make an estimated guess who would win the race after studying form and watching the horses being walked round.  Needless to say not all of us chose the winners! But it was good fun and luckily the rain cleared for the afternoon and it was a pleasant and relaxing time in the grandstand.

Ali reminded everyone about their memberships being due and also said that it would soon be time to collect either the deposit or full amount for the holiday at Derwent Manor, as soon as the paperwork was through from the hotel.

Next month’s meeting will be organised by Thomas and Sharon and news will be published on the Anglia website shortly.

April Monthly Meet 2015

Although it wasn’t as warm as we had hoped on Easter Sunday, 11 members of the Anglia Region met for lunch in the Norfolk village of Ludham.

It was then time to head towards the village of Horning - A couple of us got lost in our MR2’s, but just before it left, we did manage to board the paddle boat to take us on a trip down a very pretty part of the Broads. We all sat on the upper deck to get a good view and Jonathan even supplied us with chocolate easter eggs to keep us happy. It was a great day out and our thanks go to Jonathan for arranging this for us.

Next month’s meeting (May) is a trip to the Races at Newmarket, being organised by John & Mary-Ellen, and hopefully the weather will be kind to us.

Everything is in hand for our annual summer holiday to Northumberland and deposits will be due mid May.

March Monthly Meet 2015

Only 9 brave souls arrived at Elveden, near Thetford, for lunch which was very protracted and we were beginning to think we would be there for supper! We should have joined our friends in Venice or cruising the med. Our summer holiday was discussed and no firm decisions have been made as yet although the dates between 26th June and 4th July were agreed upon. Mary gave out the tickets for the racing at Newmarket in May and Ali said she would hand them out at the next meeting for those that have said they would be attending. Mary has paid for the tickets so she has given details on the envelopes where the money can be paid into.

Funds are very low at the moment so we need to have some raffles in the coming months in order that we have money in “the kitty” to pay for our website. Next month’s meeting is a boat trip organised by Jonathan – details on the website. Hope our numbers will increase with the better weather!
